The artistic director of Luminale invited m box to enrich the 2018 edition of Frankfurt’s prestigious festival of lights with a bespoke media installation. The installation’s location: Frankfurt’s historic, life-size Snowwhite statue at Taunuspark. Here, the m box team deliberately created a very intimate setting that would allow the audience to approach the statue and appreciate even the tiniest details of the production.
Like a second skin, generative mapping embraces the stone’s geometry, seemingly merging with and gliding across the enchanting sculpture. Associative elements from the namesake fairytale were given a contemporary update. These contrast with programmatic sound and text fragments to conjure up a context that references current, socially relevant affairs.
The Snowwhite production quickly became a popular favourite, attracting a large crowd every night that was eager to experience the sculpture’s awakening and unravel the mystery of the sleeping girl – despite the city’s wintry chill.
