"The Treasure" Saudi Arabia - Expo 2010

It is with an extraordinary architectural concept – a stylised ship’s hull floating on columns – that Saudi Arabia presented itself at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Standing on a moving walkway, the visitor slowly glides across a bridge in the main room. Below is a concave projection surface and in the centre and on the ceiling a densely patterned mirrored mosaic. Against a backdrop of sounds, a composition consisting of floral forms and oriental patterns emerges from the centre of the room, streams across the floor and walls and is caught in the mirrored mosaic on the ceiling, which reflects it on into infinity.

The viewer is in the centre – around him an undulating sea of colours and forms – and is permanently caught up in and moved by intensive impulses of movement and new aural and visual impressions. In this atmospheric density of corporeal and sensual experience, the recipient senses the country’s beauty, tradition and pride, but also its energy and pioneering spirit, on a deeply emotional level. The extraordinary projection surface and the integration of the viewer bridge was a challenge in terms of the conceptional and the technical realisation.

Directed by Marc Tamschick, m box realised the motion design that did justice to this demanding space in both a conceptual and a technical manner and which transports the content in an aesthetic form. Twenty-five HD video projectors flood the space with a completely seamless image that is created from IMAX and generated material.

A Tamschick Media+Space GmbH production in cooperation with m box bewegtbild GmbH.
